Biographical/Historical:     In June 2005 Governor Jeb Bush established the Commission on the Future of Space and Aeronautics in Florida to assess and make recommendations for strengthening Florida's role as a leader in the space and aeronautics industries. Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings served as Chair of the Commission, which included 19 members representing civil, military, commercial and academic interests. The Commission reviewed trends and issues in industry economics, workforce composition, education, business climate, launch environment, and management structure.

In 2006 the Commission published a report that outlined the potential benefits of realigning the structure and functionality of Florida's three space entities (Florida Space Authority, Florida Space Research Institute and Florida Aerospace Finance Corporation) into a new, single organization. The Florida Legislature then established Space Florida as the agency responsible for fostering the growth, development and promotion of the aerospace industry in Florida (Chapter 2006-60, Laws of Florida).

Summary:     This series contains records documenting the formation and operation of Space Florida and its Board of Directors as well as its three predecessor agencies. This series also contains materials created by the Governor's Commission on the Future of Space and Aeronautics in Florida. The records include board member correspondence, meeting materials, candidate applications, activity reports, project issues and funding information, and legislative working papers.
