Biographical/Historical:     Emile Dubois was a Frenchman who established a vineyard on part of the 800-acre plantation of San Luis. Dubois purchased 27 acres of the plantation in 1882 and established an award-winning Florida vineyard and winery. By 1890, the land produced 4,000 gallons of wine a year. Dubois sold the land after Leon County voted to go dry in 1904.

In 1968, researchers at the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences created a hybrid grape that would be good for both eating and wine production. This grape is used to make Blanc Du Bois, a dry, fruity white wine named after Emile Dubois.

Summary:     This collection contains photographs of Emile Dubois and his home at Mission San Luis in Tallahassee, Florida. Some of the images depict Dubois with a group of teachers at his school, although most depict his residence at San Luis and other buildings on the property.
