Biographical/Historical:     Naval Air Station Pensacola is a United States Navy base near Warrington, Florida, on the southern tip of Escambia County. Originally called Warrington Naval Yard, the base was a strategic location during the first years of the Civil War. From 1861 to 1862, Union and Confederate troops occupied nearby forts and vied for control of the naval base.

Summary:     This collection contains two photographs taken of the Confederate Company B of the 9th Mississippi of New Orleans in a camp at the Warrington Navy Yard on the coast of the Bayou Grande in Pensacola, Florida on April 21, 1861. The photographs were found in 1972 in a scrapbook of original sketches belonging to artist C. F. Allgower, an illustrator for Harper's Weekly. The photographs are some of the earliest known Confederate subjects in Florida.
