The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Terms Governing Use:
Biographical/Historical:     The Governor is the Chief Executive Officer of the state and as such is commander-in-chief of the state militia, signs all commissions for state and county officers, fills hundreds of state and county offices by appointment, and has the power of suspension over state and county officers.  The Governor is also chief planning and budgeting officer for the state, has veto power over legislative acts, can call special sessions of the Legislature, and can call for adjournment if the Legislature cannot agree upon a time.

Summary:     This series includes candidates' appointment applications and resumes; letters endorsing candidates, usually indicating their background and qualifications and sometimes their political affiliations; correspondence to and from appointees regarding their appointment; copies of oaths of office; and correspondence regarding resignations, retirements, deaths, and the resulting vacancies. The records in this series document the governor's power to make appointments to various judicial offices, boards, and committees.
    This series was previously known as Appointment files for Judicial, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Council, and Human Rights Advocacy Committee vacancies.
