Askew ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1984. In 1987, Askew declared his candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat, but he withdrew in 1988.

Summary:     This collection consists of photographs and audio/visual material maintained by Reubin O'D. Askew during the many different phases of his political career. It consists primarily of photographs taken during Askew's service in the Air Force ROTC, his years in the Florida House and Senate, his two terms as governor, and from his position as U.S. Trade Representative under President Jimmy Carter. Also included are recordings of interviews and addresses, gubernatorial campaign advertisements, and documentary programs produced during and after his retirement from public office.
