Summary:     This collection consists of photostatic copies of newspaper articles, personal correspondence, and a resolution. Various settlers and immigrants in Pensacola and Tallahassee wrote the letters, ranging from 1771 to 1848. Topics include American relations with the Spanish in Pensacola; efforts by the Seminole, Creek, and Cherokee nations to reclaim their ancestral lands in Florida; the living conditions in Tallahassee; and the status of enslavers and the cotton industry in Leon County.

    This collection also includes copies of clippings from several national newspapers, 1817-1862, covering the occupation of Florida by General Andrew Jackson, attacks by indigenous people in Florida and Georgia, and Civil War action at Santa Rosa Island. There is also a resolution from 1835 by the citizens of Shell Point, condemning interference by northern abolitionists in the affairs of the South.
