Biographical/Historical:     William George Dodd was born in Waynesville, Ohio, in 1874. He received his master's and doctorate degrees from Harvard University. He moved to Tallahassee, Florida, in 1910 to teach English literature at the Florida State College for Women. There he served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 1913 to 1944.

Summary:     The collection contains a notebook titled, "Original Plot of Tallahassee with Numbered City Lots," that William G. Dodd compiled around 1930. The notebook contains a plat map of Tallahassee lots with a list of original property owners. Also included in the notebook are an alphabetical genealogical compilation of many of Tallahassee's early families and lists of intendants of Tallahassee from 1826 to 1906, clerk-treasurers from 1826 to 1855, and postmasters from 1825 to 1935. The notebook also contains a compilation of death notices from the "Floridian" and "True Democrat," and wedding announcements from the "Floridian."
