Biographical/Historical:     Adis M. Vila served as Secretary of the Dept. of Administration from 1987 to 1989.  Born in Cuba, Vila moved to Florida as a child and is a naturalized U.S. citizen.  In 1978, she graduated with honors from the University of Florida School of Law; she then studied international law in Geneva and at the Hague.  Before her appointment to the Dept. of Administration, she practiced law with the Miami firm of Paul and Thomson (1979-1982) and served at the White House Office of Public Liaison (1982-1983).  At the federal level, she served as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs at the Dept. of State (1983-1986); and as Director of the Office of Mexico and the Caribbean Basin in the Dept. of Commerce (1986-1987).
Summary:     The series contains the speeches of Secretary of Administration Adis M. Vila from 1987 to 1989.  Also included are various programs and newspaper clippings which relate to the organizations where she spoke.  Background material for some of the speeches is also included.
