Biographical/Historical:     Samuel C. White (1803-1866) arrived in Florida around 1850 and purchased lands in Leon and Wakulla Counties. He established a large labor farm in Leon County. After White's death, Leon County Sheriff Richard Saunders became administrator of his estate.

Summary:     The collection contains the papers of Samuel C. White of Leon County, Florida. The records primarily consist of deeds and indentures between White and others, including Ephraim, Joshia and Stephan Saunders, John Havis, W. J. White and John Townsend. These deeds are issued mostly from Leon County, but some are from Thomas County, Georgia. It also contains two pieces of personal correspondence. The papers cover part of Florida's territorial period and into its statehood. Also included in the collection is a eulogy of Samuel C. White, which extols his "uniform Christian character."
