Biographical/Historical:     Escambia County was created by an act of the Legislative Council on July 21, 1821.  It originally encompassed "all the country lying between the Perdido and Suwaney Rivers."  On February 18, 1842 the Legislative Council created Santa Rosa from a portion of Escambia County.  Thereafter, Escambia County consisted of the land from the Alabama line to the Escambia River.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of a microfilm copy of deed records of Escambia County, Florida from 1820 to 1910.  The series includes deeds (1822-1901) and indexes by grantor and grantee (1810-1910). In the broadest sense, a deed (or conveyance) is a legal instrument by which real property is transferred from one party to another. Deed books contain many types of title conveyances and contracts. Among the most common type are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, and deeds of gift.
