Biographical/Historical:     Duval County was created as one of the two counties in East Florida by an act of the Legislative Council on August 12, 1822. Duval County would subsequently be divided to form other counties: Alachua (1824), Clay (1858), Hamilton (1827), and Nassau (1824). The courthouse of Duval County was destroyed by fire on May 3, 1901. The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     This series contains a microfilm copy of the probate records from 1822 to 1922 of the County Court of Duval County, Florida. The documents include wills, letters of testamentary, orders, petitions, homestead exemptions (1851-1893), county court minutes (1834-1866), an index to plat books, probate packets and indexes to judgements and decrees.  Most of the material is indexed.
