The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Leon County was created by an act of the Legislative Council of Florida on December 29, 1824 (Laws).  It was formed from the eastern half of Gadsden County. The boundaries of Leon County underwent several changes through out the years.  When Wakulla County was created in 1843, the southern boundary of Leon County was changed. The boundary between Leon County and Jefferson County was altered several times (1829, 1831, 1832 and 1881) before it became permanent.  The Clerk of the Circuit Court in each county serves as the official custodian of deed, marriage, and probate records.
Summary:     The series consists of microfilmed copies of the marriage records for Leon County from 1825 to 1955.  It includes bound marriage record books and loose marriage records which are mostly divided by race and sex. It also contains indexes to the marriage records divided also by race and sex.
