The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     Mary Jane Martinez worked as a media specialist and later head librarian at Tampa's King High School for 20 years. During that time, she saw firsthand many of the problems that young people are facing. As First Lady, she was deeply concerned about children and worked to strengthen families and help troubled teenagers. She served as the chairman of the board of trustees for the Florida Network of Youth and Family Services, a network of 17 runaway shelter facilities throughout the state, and honorary chairman of Florida Informed Parents, an organization of parent groups united to fight drug and alcohol abuse among children.

    She regularly visited runaway shelters and children's drug programs throughout the state and established boards of trustees for both organizations to help raise private money to provide services and professional counseling for children and families, improve existing runaway shelters, and fight drug abuse. In addition, she was actively involved in developing libraries to their fullest potential. She regularly visited libraries and media centers throughout Florida. In 1988 she was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the Advisory Committee of the White House Conference on Library and Information Services.
