Biographical/Historical:     The Commission for the Investigation of the Acts and Doings of the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida was created in May, 1907 (Ch. 5632, 1907) and consisted of three members of the Senate and four members of the House of Representatives.  It assumed the duties of the Joint Committee to Investigate the Affairs of the Internal Improvement Fund that had been appointed under the 1907 House Concurrent Resolution No. 1. The Joint Committee disbanded when the 1907 Legislative Session ended and the Commission was created to continue the investigation.
The investigation focused on whether the Trustees were in compliance with Acts passed in 1903 and 1906 regarding the drainage and reclamation of the Everglades swamp and overflowed lands, the land grants to railroads and canal companies, the repayment of funds to parties whose title had failed, and the distribution of funds to counties for schools and public roads.
Summary:     This series contains a transcript of the testimony of 42 witnesses given before the commission on June 27, 1907, regarding the possible mismanagement and wrongdoings of the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund. It includes the testimony of the active Trustees, Governor N. B. Broward, Attorney General W. H. Ellis, State Treasurer W. V. Knott, Comptroller A. C. Croom, and Commissioner of Agriculture B. E.
