The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Restrictions: NONE.  Because all records in this series are over 50 years old, these otherwise confidential/exempt records  are available for research per section 257.38(2), Florida Statutes: "All public records transferred to the custody of the division shall be subject to the provisions of s. 119.07(1), except that any public record or other record provided by law to be confidential or prohibited from inspection by the public shall be made accessible only after a period of 50 years from the date of the creation of the record." 

(Patient medical records under 50 years old in the State Archives of Florida are restricted by Section 395.3025, Florida Statutes, Patient and personnel records; copies; examination, which states in part, "Patient records are confidential and must not be disclosed without the consent of the patient or his or her legal representative. . ."  Chapter 405, F.S., Medical Information Available for Research, provides for access to confidential patient records by specified parties "only for the purpose of advancing medical research or medical education in the interest of reducing morbidity or mortality. . .")

Summary:     The series contains the daily medication logs of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Hospital from 1952 to 1961. It documents the medication (narcotics) given to patients in general and in surgery, the emergency room and obstetrics ward.  The name of the patient, type of medication, date, time and doctor are listed.
