The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Hospital operated from 1950 to 1970 as the major health care facility for all blacks, including students, faculty, and the general public, within a 160 mile radius of Tallahassee, Florida.  It began as the sanatorium, student health center, and training center for black nurses of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes.  The hospital building was constructed in 1949 and was managed by a Board of Trustees from 1957 to 1967 (Ch. 57-142 and Ch. 67-41, Laws of Florida).  The hospital was closed in 1970.
