The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical Note:     The Division of Recreation and Parks was created in the Department of Natural Resources in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws of Florida), assuming the duties of the Board of Historic Parks and Memorials (1949, Ch. 25353, Laws) and the Outdoor Recreational Development Council (Ch. 63-36, Laws).  A state park system in Florida was originally authorized in 1925 (1925, Ch. 10278).  The Division's duties are to preserve, manage, protect, and regulate all parks and recreational areas held by the state.  Its mission is to "provide resource-based recreation while preserving, interpreting and restoring natural and cultural resources. "
