Biographical/Historical Note:     The Department of Education is responsible for the state public broadcasting program system which supports all educational radio and television.  Florida's educational television network was begun in 1957 (Ch. 57-312, Laws of Florida) by the Florida Educational Television Commission.  The commission consisted of seven members appointed by the governor.  The commission was abolished in 1967 (Ch. 67-569, Laws), and the system was placed under the State Board of Education.  In 1969, the Department of Education took control of the system (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  While the system provides educational programming and other programs of interest, each public broadcasting station in the state is independent and controls its own broadcast content.
