The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Department of Revenue was created in 1969 (Laws of Florida, 69-106). Several state agencies or agency functions were transferred into the new department, among them the Comptroller's duties and functions relating to the collection of state taxes, the State Treasure's duties and functions relating to the collection of state revenues, and the State Revenue Commission. The department is responsible for collecting different types of taxes, such as sales and use tax, corporate income tax, documentary stamp tax, etc. The Florida Department of Revenue operates several program areas, including General Tax Administration, Property Tax, and Child Support Enforcement.
    The State Revenue Commission was established by Chapter 63-253, Laws of Florida (SB 400, 1963) to consolidate collection of certain revenues under a single cabinet board. The Commission consisted of the governor, secretary of state, comptroller, state treasurer, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, and state superintendent of public instruction and was given responsibility for "regulating, conrolling and administering all revenue laws and performing all other duties now vested in the state comptroller [and] regulating, controlling and administerating the duties now vested in the secretary of state relative to the capital stock tax collection..."
Summary:     This series consists of issues of The Revenue Review newsletter from 2005-2009. The newsletter is created for employees of the Department of Revenue and documents Department activities and current events. Of note is the September 2009 issue that celebrates the Department's 40 year anniversary.
