The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Terms Governing Use:
Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Legislature created the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) with enactment of the Juvenile Justice Act of 1994 (Chapter 94-209, Laws of Florida). The newly created agency absorbed the powers, funding and personnel of the HRS Division of Youth Services, and also assumed responsibility for overseeing juvenile delinquency cases and children and families in need of services (CINS/FINS) cases. DJJ is headed by a Secretary appointed by the governor and who shares leadership duties with the Deputy Secretary.

    The Office of Health Services was established in 2005 with the hiring of the Department’s first Chief Medical Director. Per the Department of Juvenile Justice's website, "The Office of Health Services is responsible for assisting the Department with the oversight of medical, mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disability services to all youth adjudicated delinquent and placed under the supervision of the Department."

Summary:   These records document the daily activities of the first Chief Medical Director of the Office of Health Services. Of particular interest are the bill file folders that show legislation monitored by staff and numerous folders on mental health and susbtance abuse.
