The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Department of Children and Families was created by Section 20.19, Florida Statutes, and it is headed by a governor-appointed secretary. The agency is responsible for the safety, well-being and welfare of abused, neglected and abandoned children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse problems. It also maintains partnerships with local communities in assisting people to become economically self-sufficient, thereby creating stable families and communities. The department has the overall responsibility of all family services offered by the state.

    The Council on Homelessness was created under the Florida Department of Children and Families in May 2001 to develop policies, recommendations, and influence legislation in Florida to reduce homelessness in Florida. The Council's mission is to develop and coordinate policy to reduce the prevalence and duration of homlessness in Florida.
