Summary:     The series summarizes the receipts issued by the Treasurer's Office to the county tax collectors for the total amount of state and county taxes collected from 1877 to 1907 and from 1912 to 1939. The volumes for 1908 to 1911 are not included in this series.
All volumes provide the information found on the receipt:  from whom the money was received, county, date, receipt number, and the amount received.  Volume 1 is slightly different from the rest of the series.  The first half of the book is headed "Abstracts of Receipts - by Month" and the second half of the book is headed "Abstracts of Receipts from the County of
_".  The two part format is useful because it allows for different access points.  Volumes 2 through 18 have only the monthly list.
The earliest volumes indicate the basic revenue producing funds which appear to be the state tax proper, the general sinking fund, the interest fund, and miscellaneous receipts.  However, as the years progressed and state government expanded its services, additional funds were added.  These included funds for the pension tax, the state board of health tax, the sale of feed stamps, insurance company licenses, the charter tax, the state road tax, etc.  The abstracts also show taxes collected as back taxes.
