Biographical/Historical:     The "Storm of the Century" was a massive and deadly storm that formed on March 12, 1993 in the Gulf of Mexico and moved through the eastern United States and parts of Canada before dissipating in the Atlantic Ocean on March 15, 1993. At its height, the storm reached from Canada to Central America. In Florida, the storm created hurricane-force winds, tornadoes and storm surge. The storm devastated the Gulf coastal community of Dekle Beach in Taylor County, with storm surge over 11 feet and several deaths.

    Susan E. Moody was a resident of Dekle Beach at the time that the storm passed through.

Summary:     This collection consists of color photographs documenting storm damage caused by the March 13, 1993 "Storm of the Century" in Dekle Beach, Taylor County, Florida. There also images depicting the process of rebuilding a storm-damaged home. Most of the photographs have inscriptions on the back that identify the location and/or subject. This collection also includes newspaper clippings related to the storm and its aftermath, and an access permit granted to Susan Moody (then Towles) for re-entry into Dekle Beach.
