Biographical/Historical:   George Leroy Chamberlin was born in Hempstead, New York on March 30, 1920 to Harry Dennis and Marguerite Kuhn Chamberlin. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1945. Though he started his army career in the Panama Canal Zone, Chamberlin also serviced at Eglin Airfield and Fort Walton Beach in Florida and at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia. While enlisted, Chamberlin married Agnes Schumeyer on June 16, 1942.

  After the war, Chamberlin returned to New York where he joined the New York City Fire Department. He and his wife had two children: George Richard and Arlene Agnes. Chamberlin and his wife retired to Gainesville in 1968. Chamberlin died in Archer on December 20, 2003.

Summary:   According to George Richard Chamberlin, son of the creator of this scrapbook, "A Soldier's Scrapbook was prepared by George Leroy Chamberlin for the purpose of memorializing his early years of military service prior to and during World War II." The scrapbook includes newspaper clippings, cards, letters, photographs, and other mementos of various sorts. Chamberlin includes descriptors throughout the scrapbook, providing more context to the items included. The scrapbook gives a concise glimpse into the life of a soldier in the United States Army during World War II.
