Biographical/Historical:     The Farm to Fuel initiative was established in 2006 (Section 570.954, Florida Statute) to position Florida as a leader in the production of alternative energy through the use of crops and woody biomass from Florida farms. By utilizing these alternative forms of energy, the initiative aimed to reduce the state's dependency on foreign oil, open new markets for Florida growers and create jobs through the processing of agricultural products and byproducts. The ultimate goal of the initiative was for Florida's agricultural industry to meet 25% of the state's energy needs by the year 2025. To achieve its goals, the Farm to Fuel initiative provided matching grants for bioenergy projects, which supported research and development of feedstock for the production of biofuel, as well as, for the construction of biodiesel and ethanol plants.

Summary:     This series documents the application, review and administration process of Farm to Fuel grants. The series consists of grant applications, grant reviews, financial documents, project descriptions, correspondence and reports. The financial documents include receipts, summary and detailed budgets, invoices and reimbursements. The correspondence documents interactions between Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services staff and grantees regarding amendments to the contracts and from business associates in support of grantees. The reports consist of summary reports from grantees and evaluator worksheets completed by DACS staff.
