Terms Governing Use:
Biographical/Historical:     The Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences was created in 1939 (Ch. 19281, Laws) and abolished in 1967 (Ch. 67-596, Laws). It administered a basic sciences examination to practitioners of the healing arts and issued certificates of proficiency in the basic sciences to successful candidates.  The certificate was a prerequisite required by the Florida licensing boards. Exempted from this examination were dentists, pharmacists, nurses, optometrists, podiatrists, and christian scientists.  Although the Board was abolished in 1967, it administered examinations until 1969.

Summary:     The series consists of index cards of the successful and unsuccessful candidates of the examination offered by the Board of Examiners in the Basic Sciences from 1952 to 1967. The information given can include the candidate's name, city of residence, certificate number and date of issue (if issued), and examination grades in each subject.
