Biographical/Historical:     Dr. Dorothy Dodd was the first State Archivist and the second State Librarian of Florida. She received her bachelor's degree at Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee before earning her doctorate degree in history from the University of Chicago.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Dr. Dodd worked on a publication, "Manufactures and the Mechanic Arts in Middle Florida, 1824-1860." In 1984, the first chapter of this work, "The Settlement of Middle Florida," was typed from a handwritten draft. Due to inaccuracies in this typed draft, a second typing was done by Patty Paul in 1988.

Summary:     This collection contains three drafts of Dr. Dorothy Dodd's "The Settlement of Middle Florida," the first chapter of an unfinished publication, Manufactures and the Mechanic Arts in Middle Florida, 1824-1860. These drafts include two typed copies from Dr. Dodd's handwritten work, one in 1984 and a more accurate one typed by Patty Paul in 1988. Also included is a copy of Dr. Dodd's undated handwritten draft.
