Terms Governing Use: Because of the fragile condition of this collection, no photocopying will be allowed. Due to the fragile condition of Box 1, FF1 - Washington Primitive Baptist Church Ledger, 1847-1917, use under supervision of Archivist.
Biographical/Historical:     The Washington Primitive Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida, was organized in 1848. The original structure was built shortly after the church formed, and it remained in use until 1931 when a new church building was constructed. In 1941, the church was surveyed by the Works Progress Administration while under the leadership of Reverend J. Hicks. The church later became known as "Hard Labor Creek Church." It is unknown when the church halted activities. In 2012, the local community raised funds to restore the church building, and the church is designated as a historic site in Washington County.

Summary:     This collection consists of two ledgers covering church activities for Washington Primitive Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida from 1847 to 1956. The ledgers include information such as church services, financial records, minutes of meetings, visitors, congregation members, baptisms, deaths and acknowledgments.
