Biographical/Historical:     Calvin Lewis Robinson (1828-1887) was a Vermont native who moved to Jacksonville in 1857. He was a successful businessman in Jacksonville prior to the Civil War. He was loyal to Union during the Civil War, and faced harsh treatment after Florida seceded from the Union in 1862. His experiences are also detailed in the book, A Yankee in a Confederate Town.

Summary:     This collection includes a copy of "The Memoirs of Calvin L. Robinson: Concerning the Experiences of the Robinson Family in Jacksonville During the Civil War", dated 1914. Also included is a 1962 letter concerning  how the copy came to be.

    The memoirs detail Robinson's experience being a Union sympathizer in Florida during the Civil War. This includes losing his businesses, being chased out of his home with his wife and two young sons, being threatened by fellow Southerners and related experiences and struggles.
