Biographical/Historical:     Raphael J. Moses (1812-1893) was a lawyer from Charleston, South Carolina. He practiced law in the boomtown of St. Joseph, Florida and contributed to railroad development in the town during the railroad boom that began in the 1830s. The town collapsed in the 1840s after a yellow fever epidemic and then a hurricane devastated St. Joseph. Moses later settled in Columbus, Georgia.

Summary:     This collection contains copies of materials related to the development of St. Joseph, Florida, from the perspective of Raphael J. Moses, during a railroad boom in the 1830s. The collection also includes letters between C. B. Moses, the grandson of Raphael J. Moses, and Richard Morey, discussing his grandfather's materials, the town of St. Joseph, the railroad boom, and the yellow fever epidemic.
