Biographical/Historical:     Richard Johnson Mays (1808-1864) and his wife, Eliza Anna Williams Mays (1812-1890), settled in Madison County, Florida around 1830. Richard J. Mays served an active role in organizing several churches, including the Hickstown Baptist Church, the Concord Baptist Church, and the Monticello Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon and served as a pastor for the Concord Baptist Church in north Madison County. In 1843, Mays was among the delegates who formed the Florida Baptist Association. From 1835 to 1838, he served as postmaster for Madison County as well as a justice of the peace in 1837.

Summary:     This collection consists of records related to the estate of Richard J. Mays of Madison County, Florida. The records include his will, signed March 23, 1864, and his probate, signed July 12, 1864.
