Biographical/Historical:     Roderick McLennan (1823-1911) was a Canadian citizen doing business in Georgia and Florida during the Civil War. Union forces wrongfully captured him near St. Marks, Florida in 1864, mistaking his involvement in blockade running. He spent several weeks in Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas prison of war camp before his release from Key West, after which he returned to Canada.

Summary:     This collection includes photostats of records relating to Roderick McLennan's experience as a wrongfully captured prisoner of war in Florida during the Civil War. Records include his release papers from Key West; an 1864 letter explaining the circumstances behind his imprisonment; and an 1887 letter detailing the situation, his losses due to his wrongful imprisonment, and the claims he has against the United States for his losses.
