Biographical/Historical:     Samuel T. Day (1828-1877) was a physician, labor farmer, and politician in Columbia County, Florida. He was the fourth Lieutenant Governor of Florida, serving from 1871 to 1872 with Governor Harrison Reed. Day declared himself acting governor after the impeachment of Governor Reed until the conclusion of Reed's court appeal, from February 10 to May 4, 1872.

Summary:     This collection consists of a letter from Samuel T. Day in Jacksonville, Florida, to President Andrew Johnson on June 26, 1865. The letter discusses the members of an elected committee tasked with reorganizing the state government. The letter also suggests sending a delegate to Washington to present the state's interests in the future.
