Biographical/Historical:     Richard Henry Battle (1807-1882) was a resident of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1830, he traveled to Jackson County, Florida to live on his brother Amos' farm. The land patent for Amos Johnston Battle's farm describes the property at 4 North, 10 West, Section 11.

Summary:     This collection consists of two letters from Richard Henry Battle to his mother, Mary Palmer Battle (1786-1866) in 1830 and 1831, during his stay on his brother's farm in Jackson County, Florida. In the letters, he discusses his experiences and impression of life in Florida during its territorial days.
