Biographical/Historical:   The Florida Centennial Celebration occurred in Tallahassee from November 9-15, 1924. The event marked the anniversary of the first territory-wide legislative council meeting in Tallahassee. An Executive Committee, with R. A. Gray at the helm, held administrative control over the event along with myriad subcommittees. Centennial festivities included parades, exhibitions, pageants, band concerts, fireworks and a gala.
Summary:   This series documents the planning phase of the week long Florida Centennial Celebration. The majority of the records follow the accumulation of subject-based histories on the once Territory and later State of Florida by the Subcommittee on Historical Data and Exhibit for the Centennial Celebration. Tallahassee is the focus of much of the correspondence and attached historical write-ups. Of particular interest is the file on the history of local families. Oftentimes written by descendants, this file speaks to the lives of the Tallahassee area's earliest settlers from those who knew them best.
