Biographical/Historical:     The State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers was created in 1933 (1933, Ch. 17032, Laws).  It assumed the duties of its predecessor board, the State Board of Embalming (1917, Ch. 7395, Laws).  In 1969, it became part of the Division of Professions in the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation (Ch. 69-106, Laws).  The duties of the Board include the examination of applicants as to their qualifications; keeping records of apprentices receiving training and instruction; registering and licensing embalmers, funeral directors, and funeral establishments; and revoking licenses.
Summary:     The series contains the minutes of the State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers from 1933-1969 and 1973-1974.  There is a gap in the minutes from 1970 to 1973.  The minutes document the topics of discussion, decisions made, and actions taken by the Board.  The records contain lists of the applicants who took the funeral directors and embalmers examination and were issued or denied licenses.  The records from 1973-1974 include transcripts of open meetings held by the Board in various locations in Florida.
