Biographical/Historical:     The Board of Dentistry was established in 1969 as part of the Division of Professions in the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation (Ch. 69-329, Laws).  It assumed the duties of its predecessor boards, the Board of Dental Examiners (1887, Ch. 3711, Laws), the State Board of Dental Examiners (1911, Ch. 6192, Laws), and the State Board of Dentistry (Ch. 67-409, Laws).  The Board conducts examinations of applicants for licenses to practice dentistry and dental hygiene, formulates rules and regulations by which dental colleges and schools should be approved, and conducts hearings to revoke or suspend licenses.
Summary:     The series consists of application files of the Board of Dentistry and its predecessor boards from 1887 to 1973 for previously licensed dentists who have retired, died, failed to renew, or voluntarily allowed their licenses to lapse.  The records include applications, transcripts, and correspondence.  The bulk of the records are from 1920 to 1973.  Applications may contain the applicant's birth date, birth place, residence at the time of application, education, recommendations, and a photograph.
