Biographical/Historical:     The Division of Historical Resources, created in 1978 when the State Library and State Archives split from the Division of Archives, History and Records Management, is responsible for preserving and promoting Florida's historical, archaeological, and folk culture resources. The Division is comprised of two Bureaus: the Bureau of Historic Preservation and the Bureau of Archaeological Research, which assist with protecting and documenting the state's historic buildings, properties, and archaeological sites.

The Bureau of Historic Preservation (BHP) conducts historic preservation programs aimed at identifying, evaluating, preserving and interpreting the historic and cultural resources of Florida. Among its numerous responsibilities, the Bureau oversees the state's National Register of Historic Places program, maintains an inventory of the state's cultural resources in the Florida Master Site File, and reviews the impact that development projects may have on significant historic resources.

Summary:     This series consists of photographic slides collected by the Division of Historical Resources as part of its historic preservation efforts. The slides include photographs of exterior architecture, interior features, landscapes, Sanborn maps, and artist renderings of historic districts, sites, and structures. Most of the images are of historic sites and structures that are now documented in the Division's Master Site File. The slides are in many cases labeled either with the name of the site or structure they depict, and/or with that site or structure's Master Site File code.
