The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Bureau of Local Government Finance is the depository for the financial reports of local governments in Florida. Local governments (counties, municipalities, and special districts) are required to submit a copy of their annual fiscal reports and audits to the Bureau. The Bureau has been under the Division of Accounting and Auditing in the Department of Banking and Finance, the predecessor of the Department of Financial Services, since 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws). Prior to 1969, these functions were the responsibility of the Comptroller's Office. The State Comptroller headed the Department until the Constitutional revision of 2003, which transferred the functions of the Comptroller and Treasurer to the newly established position of Chief Financial Officer as head of the Department of Financial Services (Ch. 2003-261, Laws).
Summary:     This series contains the annual financial reports from special tax districts within Florida and related correspondence with the Office of the Comptroller. This series also includes administrative files such as user surveys regarding the Local Government Reports, index lists of special districts, and drafts of the Annual Financial Report form and questionnaire.
