Under the Florida Environmental Reorganization Act of 1993, the Division of State Lands was transferred intact to the Dept. of Environmental Protection (Ch. 93-213, Laws). The Division of State Lands performs all staff duties and functions related to acquisitions, administration, and disposition of state lands, the title to which are or will be vested in the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund.
The Murphy Act was created in 1937 (Ch. 18296, Laws). The Act provided for forfeiture of lands for nonpayment of property taxes.  If the taxes were not paid by June 9, 1939, title to the land went to the State, which are administered by the Board of Trustees. The lands received under the Murphy Act are managed as conservation lands or are offered for sale as surplus.
