The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Office of Financial Regulation (OFR), created in 2003 through the Cabinet Reorganization Act of 2002, is an independent agency within the Department of Financial Services (Chapter 2002-404, Laws of Florida). Established to take on some of the responsibilities of the Office of the Comptroller, the OFR oversees and regulates a wide range of financial enterprises and individuals such as banks, credit unions, mortgage loan originators, securities industry participants, consumer finance companies, money transmitters, foreign currency exchangers, and payday lenders. The Office reports to the Financial Services Commission made up of the Governor, the Chief Financial Officer, the Attorney General, and the Agricultural Commissioner.
Summary:     This series contains files created and maintained by Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner Don Saxon. Saxon had a long career with the agency and its predecessor the Office of the Comptroller, serving in a supervisory capacity from 1979 to 2008. The series documents Saxon's activities in overseeing the Office of the Comptroller and the Office of Financial Regulation.

    The series includes speech, presentation, and conference files that document the interrelationship of the OFR with various national and state organizations that certified, licensed, or otherwise ensured the proper training and fitness of those engaged in the buying and selling of financial instruments. It also includes subject files for various state and national topics of interest to Saxon, records related to his role as a member of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), legal materials related to the investigation of investment bankers Gruntal and Company for several scandals in the 1990s, and general administrative records.
