Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Legislature created the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) with enactment of the Juvenile Justice Act of 1994 (Chapter 94-209, Laws of Florida). The newly created agency absorbed the powers, funding and personnel of the HRS Division of Youth Services, and also assumed responsibility for overseeing juvenile delinquency cases and children and families in need of services (CINS/FINS) cases. DJJ is headed by a Secretary appointed by the governor and who shares leadership duties with the Deputy Secretary.

    The Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida, opened as the Florida State Reform School in 1900 under the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions. It was a high-risk residential commitment facility for male youth 13 to 21 years of age who were committed by the Court. In 1914 the name changed to the Florida Industrial School for Boys, then the Florida School for Boys in 1957. From 1967 until its closure in 2011, the school was called the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in honor of its first superintendent.
Summary:     This series contains Florida newspaper clippings collected in a single scrapbook by the administration office of the Florida School for Boys. This volume consists of clippings that contain any mention of the school, activities held at the school, fund-raising efforts, treatment of juvenile delinquency, school curriculum development, announcements and coverage for speaking engagements of school superintendent Arthur G. Dozier. The clippings also cover such topics as Florida's prison facilities, prison sentencing and rehabilitation of juveniles.
