The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:
Summary: This series includes two volumes of historical drawings, photos and documents related to the land acquisition and development of the Capitol Center in downtown Tallahassee. The first volume includes: Preliminary study by AD Taylor, Landscape Architect; Properties held by the State of Florida as of 1946; Memos from City Attorney, James Messer; a list of properties owned by the City of Tallahassee and granted to the State of Florida with dates and purchase price.  The second volume contains drawings and photographs for the proposed Capitol Center by AD Taylor, Landscape Architect in 1947-1948. The drawings include the proposed plans for the downtown area, aerial photographs specific city blocks matched with drawings of how they will be developed,  building and topographic maps of the undeveloped areas, map and legend of land acquisition.

Associated Materials: The Commission created three versions of the State of Florida Proposed Capitol Center volume.  The version in this series was created primarily for use by the Governor's Office.  A second version, containing  topographical maps of the landscape architecture in addition to maps noting building placement, is included in series S26, Florida State Improvement Commission, Capitol Center Complex proposal plan.  The third version is the most complete, including additional statistics and photographs, and is held by the State Library of Florida.
Language Notes:
Ownership/Custodial History: These volumes were created by the Commission in the 1940s, but due to the reorganization of state government in 1968 the commission became void and was under the purview of the Department of General Services until the 1990s when it became the Department of Management Services. The Department of Management Services transferred these materials to the State Archives in 2011.
