Biographical/Historical:     The United States Marine Corps was created by an act of Congress on July, 11, 1798.  From that time it has served as the Navy's flexible force for discipline among the sailors,  as sharpshooters in the rigging of sailing men of war, as boarding parties, as landing parties of naval infantry and in the twentieth century air power projection/close air support was added to the continuing traditional duties.

Public Law 416 of 1952 fixed the size and general configuration of the Marine Corps in the 20th Century.  It was updated once to make the Commandant of the Marine Corps a full participating member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff rather than a participant in only Marine Corps affecting actions.

Summary:     This collection includes photographs and two scrapbooks depicting life in Company "C", 8th Tank Battalion, Fourth Marine Division, United States Marine Corps Reserve.  It illustrates the training, community service, and other activities of the company's Marines within the community. Many of the photographs are unidentified. Identified photos are from the Tallahassee area, Fort Benning and Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. There is a small collection of correspondence and thank you letters included in the scrapbooks describing Company "C"'s activities and community service.
