The Online Catalog allows searching and browsing of information about the Florida State Archives’ holdings of over 48,000 cubic feet of state and local government records and historical manuscripts. The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical: Enacted in 2006, (HB 1347) the "Babcock Ranch Preserve Act" protects and preserves the environmental, agricultural, scientific, scenic, geologic, watershed, fish, wildlife, historic, cultural, and recreational values of the preserve.  In addition, it provides for the multiple use/sustained yield of the renewable surface resources within the preserve. This was,  up to 2006, the largest land acquisition made by the State of Florida for preservation needs.
Summary: This collection includes correspondence, copies of reports and maps, copies of Agreement for Sale, Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvements Trust Fund (aka the Florida Cabinet) agenda items and minutes, editorials and other materials sent to Governor Bush regarding the purchase of the Babcock Ranch. This collection functioned as a reading file for the Governor's Office during the legislative process to acquire this land.
