Biographical/Historical:     The B.B. McCormick Bridge was a double-leaf trunnion bascule drawbridge with twin electrically-operated spans over the Intracoastal Waterway (Pablo Creek) on Beach Boulevard (U.S. 90) in Jacksonville.  Construction began on the bridge on May 25, 1948, and it was first opened to traffic on December 14, 1949 and formally dedicated on December 17, 1949.  The bridge was replaced by twin fixed, high-level, three-lane bridges in 2009.  The B.B. McCormick Bridge is listed in the Department of Transportation's register of Historic Highway Bridges of Florida (2004).
Summary:     This series documents the life of Jacksonville's historic B.B. McCormick Bridge and includes inspection reports (including photographic documentation of conditions), scour information and reports (evaluations of scour, essentially erosion, especially around bridge abutments and piers, which can eventually lead to bridge failure), load rating information, correspondence, and original construction, repair, and rehabilitation plans.
