Biographical/Historical:     The Florida Times-Union was a daily newspaper in Jacksonville, Florida, and is the oldest newspaper in the state. The first edition of the Florida Union published in 1864. In 1883, the Union merged with the Florida Daily Times, also of Jacksonville. In 2018, the Times-Union printed its last run in Jacksonville before its printers moved to Gainesville (The Gainesville Sun) and Daytona (The Daytona Beach News-Journal).

Summary:     This collection consists of 67 mounted 20" x 16" black and white photographs of Jacksonville in 1961.  The images, originally created for the Florida Times-Union newspaper, were entered into the World Book Encyclopedia 19th Annual Photo Competition. Images in this collection depict Jacksonville students and schools, firefighters, hospitals, United States Navy ships, children playing, puppeteers, business leaders, and scenic views.
