Biographical/Historical:     The Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA) was established in 1972 with initial emphasis on developing a uniform case reporting system to provide information on activity in the judiciary in the preparation of its operating budget and in projecting the need for judges and specialized court divisions.  The State Courts Administrator serves under the direction of the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court and the other six justices and oversees the operation of numerous court programs and initiatives and administrative functions.  Additionally, the State Courts Administrator serves as the liaison between the court system and the legislative branch, the executive branch, the auxiliary agencies of the Court, and national court research and planning agencies.

In 2002 the OSCA conducted  a Statewide Domestic Violence Court Assessment project to study how courts handled domestic violence injunction and repeat violence injunction cases and to identify and make recommendations for effective court policies and services relating to domestic violence.  Project staff gathered data from case files and surveyed stakeholders including judges who handled domestic violence cases, family court staff, Clerk of Court staff, domestic violence advocates, public defenders, state attorneys, and others.
Summary:     This series documents the Office of the State Courts Administrator's conduct of its 2002 Statewide Domestic Violence Court Assessment project and the information gathered in the course of the project.  Records include project plans and planning guidelines; records of previous related studies and activities, including Governor Jeb Bush's Governor's Task Force on Domestic Violence; background information such as articles, reports, etc.; data collection instructions; completed surveys filled out by judges, court staff, Clerk of Court staff, domestic violence advocates, and other stakeholders; copies of counties' documentation regarding court case management and injunction processes and procedures and domestic violence prevention and assistance programs; and project data summaries, analyses, and report drafts.
