Biographical/Historical:     This microfilm roll contains a two-volume register of burials at military post, camps, and stations from 1768 to 1921; however, the majority of the burials occurred between 1860 and 1890.  The registers were created by the Cemetery Branch, which was established in the Office of the Quartermaster General, Washington, D.C.
Summary:     This microfilm publication contains the burial registers which are arranged by the name of the military post and then in rough chronological order by date of burial at that post.  The burial registers primarily include soldiers of the Regular Army and Union Army volunteers.  Some wives and children of military personnel, as well as some Confederate soldiers are also included.  Some deceased are listed in both volumes.

    Information about the deceased may  include:  name, rank, company, regiment, date of death, location of grave (section and number), and remarks.  The remarks column may indicate the cause of death, a civilian's relationship to a soldier, or removal to another cemetery.  Also included is the type of grave marker:  headboard, cross, marble slab, broken stone, and so forth.  The abbreviation "HS" in the remarks column means "headstone."
