The catalog provides descriptions of over 3,400 collections and lists the contents of containers and folders in many of those collections. Biographical/Historical:     The Division of Animal Industry was established within the Department of Agriculture in January 1961  (Ch. 59-54; Ch. 61-59, Laws of Florida), assuming the responsibilities of the abolished State Livestock Board (formerly the State Livestock Sanitary Board).  After 1969, the Division continued as part of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the successor agency to the Department of Agriculture.  The duties of the Division include protecting the Florida livestock industry through the control and eradication of brucellosis, tuberculosis, cholera, and other dangerous transmissible diseases of livestock; maintaining animal and poultry disease diagnostic laboratories; inspecting meat and poultry at slaughter; inspecting processing and packaging plants; and recording livestock marks and brands.  The Director of the Division also serves as State Veterinarian.   

Summary:   This series consists of a scrapbook of newpaper and magazine clippings containing articles about or of interest to the Division and its full range of responsibilities, or about other organizations or individuals with interests in the industry.  Among the topics addressed by the articles are disease and insect prevention and eradication; vaccination programs; quarantines; spraying and dipping; development and operation of diagnostic laboratories; inspection and testing; livestock market regulations.
